Winter Olympics medal count update: Friday, February 16
By Mike Dyce
Team USA failed to medal on Friday, February 16th but Korea’s Yun Sung-Bin made history in the skeleton by winning the gold medal.
On Friday, Team USA was kept off the podium at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Mikaela Shiffrin was Team USA’s best hope at winning a medal and perhaps favored to win the gold in the women’s slalom, an event she won gold in as an 18-year-old four years ago at the 2014 Sochi Games.
Shiffrin instead failed to finish on the podium and missed out on a medal altogether.
Germany also failed to finish on the podium on Friday, while Norway picked up another two medals to extend their lead in the overall medal count standings.
Great Britain won their first medal of the 2018 Games when Dom Parsons captured bronze in skeleton. Belarus won their first medal as well, a gold in freestyle skiing, women’s aerials.
Korea’s Yun Sung-Bin made history by winning the country’s first medal in skeleton, a gold. It is also Korea’s first medal in any sliding sport (skeleton, luge, bobsled).
