Federer becomes oldest world No. 1: Twitter reacts
By making the semifinals at Rotterdam, Roger Federer is back on top of the ATP rankings. At age 36. The man is simply ageless.
Fourteen year since he first achieved the No. 1 spot, and five years since he held it last, Roger Federer landed on top of the rankings — overtaking Rafael Nadal, who became the oldest year-end No. 1 — breaking Andre Agassi’s record age of 33.
With his win over Tom Haase on Friday, Federer put his face in his hands and sat down to take it all in, feeling the emotions. Tennis just seems to be giving back to the man who has given so much to the sport he loves.
“Reaching No. 1 is one of, if not the ultimate achievement in our sport,” Federer said during the ATP ranking trophy presentation.
“Sometimes at the beginning you get there just because you play so well. Later, you sometimes try to fight it back and you wrest it back from somebody else who deserved to be there, and when you’re older you feel like you have to put maybe double the work in. So this one maybe means the most to me throughout my career.”
The sport icon increases his own record of 302 total weeks at No. 1. Federer also poked fun at his own age. But always such a spokesman for the sport, tweeted how grateful he was to be playing tennis at this age.

Federer now holds the record over all women and men as the oldest. And since he’s the greatest thing to ever happen to tennis, everyone weighed in to congratulate the tennis genius.
Andre Agassi didn’t seem too upset that the Swiss Maestro just beat his record.
From one legend to another.
The years go on, but some things never seem to change.
Fed increased his own tally.
Billy Jean King noted that age is just a number.
His sponsor Moet was there with emergency champagne to celebrate the achievement, as usual (they must just follow him with an always ready supply to celebrate his achievements).
This fan compiled the headlines from years ago suggesting that Federer should retire. SHAME. SHAME. SHAME …
