After session 8 and 9, some teams are all but out of the game in women’s round robin tournament. Here are the scores from the latest rounds.

The women have now completed the vast majority of their games in the round-robin portion of the Olympic curling tournament. After round 8 and 9, it’s becoming clear which teams will make the semifinals, which will fight tooth and nail for a spot in the tie-breaker, and which are all but out.

On Feb. 19 in South Korea, the women played two sessions — 8 and 9, at 7 p.m. ET Sunday and 6 a.m  ET Monday, respectively. Here are the results and highlights of those sessions.

Round robin session 8

USA def. Denmark, 7-6

USA and Denmark both needed this win, but USA had a slight edge going into the match. Tied after the first nine ends, neither team was going to give up easy, but USA scored once more in the final end to seal the win.

Canada def. Japan, 8-3

Canada has not looked like themselves in the women’s curling tournament so far, but they weren’t going to let this match against Japan slip through their hands. Down 3-8, Japan conceded the game after only seven ends.

Korea def. Sweden, 7-6

Major upset alert. Korea, holding it down tied for second with Japan entering this session, handed Sweden their first loss of the games and totally shuffled up the upper tier of this tournament.  Down 5-7 entering the final end, Sweden succeeded in scoring the tenth end, but it was only one point and it wasn’t enough.

Switzerland def. OAR, 11-2

Switzerland and the Olympic Athletes of Russia have both struggled in the round robin so far, but the Swiss took a decisive lead and never looked back, earning their second W of the tournament when, after scoring 4 in the seventh end, OAR conceded the match.

Round robin session 9

Great Britain def. Switzerland, 8-7

Switzerland is perhaps entirely out of tie-breaker contention, but a British loss to the Swiss could have majorly affected their own hopes of making it past the round robin. As it happened, Great Britain kept it together in a tight match and scored the necessary two points in the final end to earn the win.

OAR def. Denmark, 8-7

The Olympic Athletes from Russia notch their second win in a close match against the Danes. After Denmark scored three points in the ninth end to tie up the match, OAR scored the necessary single in the final end to secure the win.

USA def. China, 10-4

Don’t look now, but Team USA is very much in this thing. With a dominant performance of high scoring early ends and additional points to buffer the lead through an eight-end match against China, USA is now in a good position to make the tie-breaker match.

Japan def. Sweden, 5-4

Sweden isn’t looking so unbeatable after all. In their second loss of the tournament, Sweden fell to Japan in a low-scoring match that saw both teams trade single point ends until two points in the ninth and one in the tenth ensured the victory for Japan.
