The ice dance competition kicks off with the short dance at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Here’s what you need to watch on TV and online.
Team USA’s ice dance pairs will take the ice in the first segment of the ice dance competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The Shib Sibs, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani, return to the ice for Team USA along with the other two pairs that will be making their 2018 Olympics debut. However, Team USA faces stiff competition from Canada as the 2014 Sochi gold medalists defend their title.
Maia and Alex Shibutani return to the ice for the individual ice dance competition after a very strong showing in the team event, where they skated both the short dance and the free dance for Team USA. This time around they will be joined by Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, as well as Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who will be making their debut at the Olympics.
The pressure is on all of the ice dance teams as Canadian superstars Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir return after their first place finishes in both of the 2018 ice dance team events. Their solid performances helped lift Canada to the team figure skating medal earlier in the Olympics. If they perform in the individual event the way they did in the team event, they might as well receive the gold medal now and call it a day. They are amazing to watch and the gold standard — pun intended — for all other teams.
Expect to see fierce competition from the Olympic Athletes from Russia, Japan, China and France in this event, all of whom had solid showings in the team event.
