26. Dallas Mavericks

As has been a constant for these lower-ranked City jerseys, effort seems to be lacking on the part of Nike and the Mavericks. The team tried to devise a creative explanation:

“Only in Dallas will you feel the energy the downtown skyline brings to its Dallasites. Marked by the neon glow on the letters, numbers and piping, the new Mavs City Edition Jersey reflects the swagger of the Big D and the vibrancy of Dallas nights.”

Never before in sports uniform history, to my knowledge, has a team combined three otherwise unused colors on a non-throwback alternate and pulled it off. A ‘vibrant’ blue and green next to black could theoretically work for a different team, but the Mavericks use a standard light and dark blue color scheme, never before incorporating the bright blue and neon green seen here. It simply does not work.

Design-wise, there isn’t a whole lot going on. Whatever is, though, is bad: The DAL across the chest is oversized, and the numbering can be hard to decipher on court. The Mavs struck out.
