It’s time for the penultimate event of women’s speedskating at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics. Here’s how you can watch the team pursuit finals online.
First things first: What is the speedskating team pursuit? The event has been compared to the team pursuit in cycling. Both teams of three skaters start on opposite sides of the track, only using the inner lane. They all skate together, hoping to either set a faster time or overtake the team on the other side of the track. It’s easiest to understand if you just watch. Which you can! Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. ET.
Unsurprisingly, the Netherlands is favored to win the gold. Japan and Germany are expected to snag silver and bronze, respectively, though there could be an upset in store.
Japan is in a good position to usurp the Dutch in the team pursuit — Japanese skaters won gold in the 500-meter, silver and bronze in the 1000-meter and silver in the 1500-meter. Furthermore, they’ve won the team pursuit in multiple world cups. The Netherlands, of course, took gold in the 1000-meter, gold and bronze in the 1500-meter, swept the 3000-meter and earned gold in the 5000-meter. (The Dutch are very, very good at speedskating.)
NBC will broadcast the race so you can watch online with a live stream in real time, when the event kicks off at 6 a.m. ET. The network will also likely show the race again during midday or early afternoon, NBC’s preferred time for skating re-runs. Check your local listings if you plan to watch on TV and don’t care about spoilers.
