T’Challa is just about to find out how far the legacy of Wakanda and the Black Panther reach, and Marvel wants you to go along for the ride.

As millions of people just found out thanks to the Black Panther movie, Wakanda is a pretty incredible place. So incredible, in fact, that it’s inspired an empire that reaches into the stars.

News to you? It is to T’Challa, too, even though we got a brief peek at it in Marvel Legacy #1. Now, Marvel is set to explore just what the  Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda is all about in a brand new Black Panther #1, coming in May.

The creative team of writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and artist Daniel Acuna are going to delve into how and why Wakanda has expanded beyond Earth, something that surprises even Black Panther himself. And as Coates told Marvel.com, it’s going to be a more action-packed ride that what he’s known for so far.

"Black Panther #1 is a creative challenge for me. My first few books were more philosophical, and while that still rings true here, this is a fast-paced, high-octane story. And with Daniel Acuña’s art, I think people are really going to feel the energy and intensity here. I wanted people to feel like this is a really fresh storyline, and I think we succeeded in that. It’s meaty, it’s different, and it’s perfect for new readers just coming to the world of T’Challa and Black Panther."
