DraftKings European League Basketball Picks February 22nd

More from DraftKings

The Euro League is back from break, coming back just a touch earlier than the NBA. Some big names are back, which takes away some value plays. We are short on studs, but long on middle tier guys today. Let’s see where that leads us!

The Euro league is a different animal. It is much more halfcourt oriented than the NBA game. The games are also eight minutes shorter. There are 16 teams in the Euro League instead of 30. That means a more shallow player pool to choose from!

Guards:

Nemanja Nedovic should make his return this week when the Euro League is back in action. He has a great matchup against Tel Aviv, and is my favorite of the upper tier provided he has no limitations. Sergio Rodriguez had a monster game against Baskonia earlier in the year (49 DraftKings points), but he has only cracked 30 once since then. Pierre Jackson is probably the most consistent producer in the upper tier, and is always worth a look. I don’t trust the inconsistency of Brad Wanamaker despite the elite matchup.

Norris Cole and Pierre Jackson have played well together. Stacking the Unicaja backcourt against Tel Aviv isn’t a horrible idea. You could even put Ray McCallum at the UTIL slot and ride all three! All of them had good games against Tel Aviv in the first meeting. Erick Green put up 29 DraftKings points in the first game against Olympiacos. Despite this bad matchup, he may be worth a look, and shouldn’t be highly owned.

Andrew Goudelock has looked solid since his return, but Cory Higgins is the most consistent in this tier for cash games. His stellar play of late is the main reason I don’t play Nando de Colo anymore. Rodriguez and Higgins seem to play well together, and CSKA doesn’t always play three guards at a time.

Rafa Martinez played well in place of Stan Van Rossom last round, and is a strong value at only $5,700. He should be starting again Thursday against Olympiacos. This matchup is not a great one, but much like with Erick Green, there is value to be had here with Van Rossom out.

Kostas Sloukas had a big game in the first meeting with Milan, but he hasn’t been above 20 DraftKings points since January 11th. I would much rather go with Janis Strelnieks here. Marko Guduric also has a great matchup and has at least 16 DraftKings points in six of the last eight games. Guduric’s court time has been more sporadic than Strelnieks or Slouskas though.

NEW YORK, NY – DECEMBER 03: Tornike Shengelia #20 of the Brookly(Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

Forwards:

Tornike Shengelia tore up the CSKA frontcourt for 41 DraftKings points in the first meeting. Only Olympiacos has managed to keep Shengelia under 20 DraftKings points in the last ten rounds. He has a nice floor and solid upside here.

Will Clyburn has gotten back on track lately, but with his price so close to Shengelia, it’s hard to justify not paying the extra $400. Same with Jan Vesely. The price difference there is only $200, and Shengelia has a much higher floor.

James Augustine has a nice matchup with Tel Aviv here, but will the guards do most of the damage? That is what happened the first time around against Tel Aviv. Jonah Bolden or Papanikolaou could be the safer option in this price range.

James Nunnally should be back on Thursday. I don’t know if I trust him yet, but it will undoubtedly kill the value of Nicolo Melli, Luigi Datome, and Jason Thompson. Adam Waczynski is the play to have in this tier. He has been very consistent lately, putting up 84.5 DraftKings points in the last four games.

Thursday should also mark the return of Jeff Brooks. He had a big game in the first game against Tel Aviv, but a lot of Unicaja is in flux right now. There are a lot of producers in that lineup. Artsiom Parakhouski continues to be a big producer for Tel Aviv. He has started the last two games, and put up 56 DraftKings points in those two games. Teammate Michael Roll has also been on a roll for Tel Aviv. He has 67 DraftKings points in 73 minutes over the last three games.

Mindaugas Kuzminskas will be a popular play once again as he played 26 minutes last round. But for that price, I prefer the consistency of Johannes Voigtmann.

Will Thomas is a tough play for me here against the best frontcourt defense in the Euroleague in Olympiacos. I would much rather go with the cheaper Carlos Suarez against Tel Aviv.
