Leganes and Real Madrid were originally supposed to play on Dec. 16, but the game was postponed so that Madrid could compete in the FIFA Club World Cup. The two teams finally meet on Wednesday, as Leganes host Real Madrid at Municipal de Butarque Stadium.

Leganes are comfortably in the middle of the Liga table. Asier Garitano’s side are 13th in the table, 11 points clear of the relegation zone. At home this season, Leganes have picked up 17 points in 10 games ahead of Wednesday’s game. However, Leganes have lost their last two games and have picked up only five points in their last six games. Leganes have scored only 20 goals, the third lowest total in La Liga this season. Gabriel leads the club with five goals this season. While Leganes have struggled to score, they have been very good defensively, allowing the fourth fewest goals.

Real Madrid had one of their best weeks of the season last week. After hearing doubters for weeks, Madrid came from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in Champions League. In La Liga, Madrid defeated Real Betis 5-3. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice against PSG and once against Betis, giving the Portuguese superstar 26 goals in all competitions this season. Zinedine Zidane’s side have gone unbeaten in their last five Liga games, picking up 13 points. Despite their recent run, Madrid are 17 points behind Barcelona but a win against Leganes would move Zidane’s side into third place in La Liga.
