Here is everything you need to know to watch the qualifying round of the parallel giant slalom for men and women at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
The parallel giant slalom is one of two snowboarding events that have been at every Winter Olympics since the 1998 games in Nagano. In this event, competitors race down a slalom head-to-head. For the qualification round, competitors will each take two runs, one on the red course and one on the blue.
There cumulative times will determine the 16 athletes who advance to the final round and from there the field will be seeded and placed into a bracket and there will be head-to-head races, eliminating athletes until a winner is determined.
The United States team only have two men competing in the event, no women will compete at 2018 games. Team USA hasn’t faired well in the sport since 2002, the last time the United States won a medal. Aaron Muss is Team USA’s best hope at a medal but his best finish at World Cup events has been sixth place.
The men will qualify at the same time as the women, at 10 p.m ET. The men’s and women’s qualifying will be available to watch via a live stream. It will be aired as part of NBC’s primetime broadcast covering all the action from the sports, along side bobsled, alpine skiing and figure skating.
