Here’s everything you need to know to tune in to the snowboarding women’s big air finals at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Big air is a new event at the Winter Olympics as of 2018. This event sees men and women flying high into the air off a 160-foot ramp to showcase their best shot at one trick.

Unlike halfpipe, which has been part of the Olympics programme since the late ’90s, big air will be making its debut on Wednesday night in the women’s final. (Note that the event was originally scheduled for Thursday evening, stateside, but was moved forward due to impending weather.)

The athletes will each get three attempts, and their scores depend on height, difficulty, style and landing quality. Riders have to make their best trick count, but in an interesting stipulation, they must land two different tricks in their three runs.

Snowboarding big air has been a fan favorite at the Winter X-Games since it was first introduced in 2011. In this year’s X-Games, American Jamie Anderson took home the bronze medal. She will now be looking for gold alongside her fellow U.S teammates Julia Marino and Jessika Jenson.

The Americans will be looking to top Austria’s Anna Gasser, who was the top qualifier coming into the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. Gasser was the only female to land a cab double cork 1080 in the qualifying round.

With this being the first year for the big air event in the Winter Olympics, the stakes will be high and the athletes will be bringing their very best tricks.
