Sweden’s contention for a spot for in the women’s curling semifinals was never in doubt. The team won their first five games, before dropping one to Korea, one to Japan, and winning the remaining run. (Quick sidebar: If Sweden wins their semifinal, they’ll face one of their only two losses in the gold medal match. Ditto if Sweden loses, but for the bronze medal match. Either way, high stakes for Sweden!)
As such, Sweden is the favorite to win to win this match, and they did, in fact, beat Great Britain when they played in session 7 of the round robin. But Team GB played the Swedes close and with a medal match on the line, they will no doubt bring their best game. Great Britain won six matches to make the semifinals. Because each of the top four women’s team won a decisive number of games (eight, seven, six and five — compared to the rest of the field’s four games, two and one) there was no tie-breaker game.
NBC will air the match by live stream on their website NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports App for those who want to watch online. The network will also air the game at 5 p.m. ET Thursday on CNBC for those who prefer cable and don’t care about time or feel any sense of urgency.
