MGM eyeing Danny Boyle as Bond 25 director?
By David Pegram
There is no shortage of rumors when it comes to Bond 25. The latest has been offered by Variety writer Justin Kroll: Danny Boyle is a top candidate to direct Bond 25. Prior to posting his report, Kroll hinted on his Twitter account that he had big news coming. This was it.
Speculation is that Boyle will work on Bond 25 only if screenwriter John Hodge is also involved. Apparently, Boyle and Hodge have been working on a Bond script for a long time and have pitched this to EON Productions. Meanwhile, as has been reported, longtime Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are already hard at work on the script for Bond 25.

Will there be competing scripts? And what happens if Hodge’s script is rejected? Bye bye, Danny, apparently.
It’s worth noting that Boyle has already directed James Bond (in a sense). Boyle directed Daniel Craig, as Bond, in the short film “Happy and Glorious” for the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In that short, as many will remember, James Bond meets Queen Elizabeth and the two have a skydiving adventure. As I noted back in August, Boyle’s previous collaboration with Daniel Craig is a plus.
However, in the past, Boyle has ruled himself out as a potential Bond director. His reason? “I’m not very good with huge amounts of money,” he said. Nevertheless, if anyone can talk Boyle into doing it, that person would be Daniel Craig.
Boyle would become the second Oscar-winning director to tackle a Bond film, after Sam Mendes became the first. Boyle won the Academy Award for Best Director in 2009, for Slumdog Millionaire.
