After another day of competition, Norway remains far and away the leader in the medal count, while the gap between USA and No. 3 Canada grows.

Unfortunately for American sports fans, the medals from the overnight events in Pyeongchang dated Feb. 23 were not kind to the U.S. athletes. Despite a recent upturn in podium appearances, the USA still finds themselves behind Germany and Canada in the standings — both of whom are far behind leader Norway. It doesn’t help that the American athletes only stood a slim chance in the events on Feb. 23.

As expected, the Olympic Athletes from Russia went gold-silver in the women’s figure skating, with Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond snagging the bronze. Canada, having quite the night, went 1-2 in women’s ski cross — Switzerland picked up bronze in that event. Switzerland also picked up bronze in men’s curling. In speedskating, which saw the men race the 1000-meter — once a very good race for Americans, Netherlands’ Kjeld Nuis took gold, Norway won another silver medal courtesy of Havard Lorentzen and South Korea’s Kim Tae-Yun came away with bronze. Not one to want to win only a pedestrian one medal per night, Norway also took silver in the men’s 4.75 km relay in the biathlon — an event won by Sweden with Germany coming in third.

Events continue today as the Winter Games wind down. USA should stand a shot to a couple more medals, but as proven to be the case in Pyeongchang, they are more maybes than sure bets.

Here is the medal standings as of the morning of Friday, Feb. 23 in America.
