Switzerland’s Nevin Galmarini won the gold in the Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom Final at the 2018 Winter Olympic games in Pyeongchang.
Nevin Galmarini won the gold medal in the Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom Final in dramatic fashion, just edging out Korea’s Lee Sang-ho.
Korean fans were enthusiastically cheering for the home favorite to pull off a storybook style win, but it was not to be. Galmarini finished the crisp victory off with a moment to reflect afterwards, lying in the snow and taking in that victory air.
He’d previously been on the other side of the race so-to-speak, winning the silver medal back at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Now, Galmarini has returned back four years later to take it all, the coveted gold medal is in his grasp.
MEDAL RESULT | Men's Parallel Giant Slalom Final

Lee Sang-ho
Žan Košir
Nevin Galmarini won his Big Final matchup with Lee Sang-ho by 0.43 seconds, and Sang-ho took home the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Slovenia’s Žan Košir, who took home the bronze medal in the Small Final against France’s Sylvain Dufour by a smooth 1.49 seconds. Košir took off his helmet and gloves right afterwards and threw them into the snow as if to say, “still got it” without saying a word.
Košir originally looked to be the winner against Sang-ho in the semi-finals in a photo finish to the eye. However, Sang-ho won by 0.01 seconds to advance. Košir was shocked upon seeing the results come up on the big screen during a second of celebration. At the beginning, he took the lead early only to see a comeback from Sang-ho towards the midsection of the race.
NBC Olympics live stream commentators discussed Sang-ho trying to duck into the finish line in order to be more aerodynamic to glide into the finish line. Some on Twitter are disputing the result, as it appears in the photos above Košir just edged out Sang-ho on the finish line.
