After winning a midweek game against Leganes, Real Madrid moved to third in the Liga table. Madrid are comfortably in a Champions League spot, nine points ahead of fifth-place Sevilla. On Saturday, Madrid host 15th-place Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu. Alaves are in the bottom third of the table but have very little chance of being relegated. The Babazorros are 10 points above the relegation zone.
Real Madrid have won four of their last five games, picking 13 of 15 points after defeating Leganes 3-1 on Wednesday. Manager Zinédine Zidane decided to rest Cristiano Ronaldo and not starting Gareth Bale against Leganes but both players will likely start against Alaves. Zidane will again have to make adjustments to his starting XI on Saturday as injuries have pile up for Madrid. Toni Kroos, Marcelo, and Luka Modric are all expected to miss Saturday’s game. With the injuries in the midfield, Zidane will likely lean on Casemiro and Isco to play a bigger role Saturday.
Alaves have created some distance between themselves and the relegation zone after winning three straight games. The Babazorros have picked up 13 points in their last six games, only losing to Barcelona over that stretch. Munir El Haddadi scored the game winning goal last weekend against Deportivo de La Coruña and leads the club with six goals.
