2018 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins 7-round mock
By Joe Romano
The Washington Redskins have already started their offseason by agreeing on a trade for quarterback Alex Smith. Next up is the NFL draft.
A trade between the Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the 2018 NFL offseason. Alex Smith will likely start under center for the Redskins to start next season. With their quarterback situation addressed now they can look forward to the NFL draft. This mock draft will go round by round and tackle the Redskins needs entering 2018.
To complete this mock, I used the fantastic Fanspeak On the Clock.
Round 1 – Pick 13
Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa
One byproduct of the Alex Smith trade is the loss of a potential budding star in corner Kendall Fuller. He was one of the highest rated slot defenders in the NFL and will leave a hole on the Washington defense. Couple that loss with the possibility of Bashaud Breeland being an unrestricted free agency and the cornerback depth chart looks thin in Washington.
The Redskins are in the perfect position to grab one of the draft’s top corners to pair with Josh Norman. They double up on the Josh name to grab Iowa’s Josh Jackson. This is the top corner on my board but this is a position where there is numerous prospects vying for that top spot.
Jackson might have been the best corner in all of college football a year ago. He finished the 2017 season with 27 passes defended and eight interceptions. A long and rangy corner with excellent ball skills is the type of player that can develop into a star in the NFL. Jackson is one of the taller corners at 6-foot-1, making him a great partner for Norman.
Some have plugged in defensive tackle help here for Washington. It is hard to envision the team using a first round pick on defensive tackles in back-to-back drafts. They selected Alabama’s Jon Allen a year ago. He should return to the lineup healthy this upcoming season and aid the leaky run defense in Washington.
