New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis is looking to get paid after playing an understated but invaluable role in Josh McDaniels’ offense.

Dion Lewis is a 27-year-old running back, entering what should be the twilight phase of his career. However, the former Super Bowl champion isn’t having any of that talk, telling Adam Schefter on The Adam Schefter Podcast that he wants fair value on the market.

"“I just have to keep taking care of my body,” Lewis said. “I learned a lot throughout my career. I’ve listened to my body more than I usually do. Sometimes I try to push through things because I like to work hard. I’ve learned I have to listen to my body.”"

Unfortunately for Lewis, the multi-talented back is probably going to have to settle for a lower number than he wants. Due to age and a lack of previous success as a feature back (to be fair, he’s never had that opportunity), general managers are going to be cautious with any deal. Lewis’ best hope is that he gets a contract laden with incentives, giving him a chance to make money with an increased opportunity.

Lewis has played six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and New England, totaling 329 carries and 1,584 yards over that span. However, he was inactive in the 2013-14 with Cleveland and Indianapolis due to a broken leg and subsequent releases. The Albany, N.Y. native is a terrific pass-catcher as well, amassing 85 passes over the previous three seasons.

On the plus side, there should be a litany of teams interested in Lewis. The versatile back is more important than ever, and with most teams trotting out a rotation at the position, there is no shortage of needs. A few potential suitors could include the Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Colts.
