The Minnesota Vikings were already solid with their 2017 roster, but here are five targets in free agency to make sure they keep up the pace in 2018.

The Minnesota Vikings came oh-so-close in 2017 to accomplishing the dream of playing in a Super Bowl in their home stadium, and ended the year just short of their goal. Their loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game had to sting, and now, they’ll turn their attention to the offseason to try and return to the big stage.

The team has a lot of question marks surrounding it as they head into free agency, with their quarterback spot causing a huge debate around the NFL. Case Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are all options to consider, and it’ll be an interesting storyline to follow to see where the three each land this spring.

Elsewhere, the Vikings just need to add some depth if they want to build up a roster to take down the Eagles in 2018. They are already solid, but could use some youth in their search for a Super Bowl in the new year.

Luckily for the Vikings, we’re here to help. Here are five players that the team should be targeting as they look to build the perfect roster for the 2018 season.

5. Sammy Watkins

The Vikings had a ton of powerful tools in the shed on offense this past season, spread out between their quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. Now, they just need to get a little more variety in the bunch.

When Sam Bradford went down, Case Keenum stepped in. When Dalvin Cook went down at running back, their offense didn’t falter. If Stefon Diggs was getting double-covered, Adam Thielen stepped in and dominated in the receiving game. However, as it goes with any other team, teams are bound to figure it out when you utilize some secrets for an entire season.

With that all in mind, it’s time for the Vikings to add some new faces on offense to help ease the burden of the stars. Their running game is still strong with the speed and power they have with Cook, and it’ll be interesting to see how he bounces back from his injury from 2017. Just in case, they’ll need to bring in some new talent in the passing game to provide some backup.

Sammy Watkins has some potential to succeed if he moves out to Minnesota, after a successful season with the Los Angeles Rams. He could be in for a big year as a third option in the Vikings’ passing attack, with Diggs and Thielen getting most of the attention in the team’s offense from opposing corners. Watkins could provide some instant experience, and a quick threat for the team to take advantage of in 2018.
