Teddy Bridgewater rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
After finally returning to the field after his serious leg injury, Teddy Bridgewater provides a unique option at quarterback in free agency this offseason.
Teddy Bridgewater was one of the hottest options at quarterback that the entire NFL had to offer just a few years ago, but a gruesome leg injury set his career back for a few years. Now, the former Minnesota Vikings star is heading to free agency, and has a few options to explore.
Bridgewater finally got back on the field in the 2017 season, but fell behind Case Keenum and Sam Bradford in his hunt to return to the starting spot while the Vikings took the second seed in the NFC. However, plenty of other teams could use Bridgewater’s services, considering his last NFL start came in a divisional round loss to the Seattle Seahawks that can solely be put on Blair Walsh.
This isn’t exactly a loaded draft class for teams looking to fill a big hole under center, and free agency may be the best best for most squads. Keenum and Bradford are also entering free agency, but all signs point to Bridgewater and Bradford finding their way out of Minnesota this offseason.
With all of that in mind, here are five potential landing spots for the former Vikings starter this offseason.
5. Cleveland Browns
This is obviously the least appetizing option for Bridgewater, as he’d take a serious dive from leading a team to the postseason just a few years ago before his injury all the way down to a team that went winless in 2017.
The Cleveland Browns are where quarterbacks land with potential, and unfortunately die out soon after. Whether it’s DeShone Kizer, Johnny Manziel or anyone in between, things never go well when you’re put under center in Cleveland, for one reason or another.
The Browns have the top pick in the NFL Draft, and the last thing they should do is waste it on their search for their quarterback of the future. Free agency is their best bet there, and Bridgewater may turn into a cheaper option to jump on and put under center.
The best strategy in this whole offseason for the Browns would be to draft Saquon Barkley with the top pick in the draft to help bolster their offense, and use the fourth overall pick for some offensive line help to avoid a drop-off when Joe Thomas can’t go anymore. With their offense improved immensely with those two picks, Bridgewater could jump right in and help lead a well-rounded offensive attack.
Knowing the Browns, they’ll take a quarterback like Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold with one of their top-10 picks, and they’ll waste this golden opportunity to build for the future. However, if they were smart, Bridgewater would be the name to target.
