After more than 20 years as manager at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger finally looks to be on his way out. There can only be one man to take his place.

Recent media reports suggest that Arsene Wenger’s time at Arsenal has finally reached its end. After more than 20 years at the club, the Frenchman looks to be on his way out and numerous managers, including Joachim Low, Carlo Ancelotti and club-legend Thierry Henry, have already been linked with his job. Among this list of potential high-profile replacements is also a name which jumps out at you with a set of shiny white veneers, Brendan Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman, who currently sits at the helm of Celtic in Scotland, previously enjoyed a successful spell in Premier League where his Liverpool side won nothing. With that in mind, here are three things he will bring to Arsenal should he appointed.

Character

A hall-mark of Brendan Rodgers’ managerial style is the importance he places on players showing “character”. A 1-0 win over mid-table Bournemouth and a 4-0 derby loss are one and the same as long as the players show character. Post-match interviews will be riddled with the phrase which makes for a good drinking game, though fans might already be a pint or two in after watching (inevitable new signings) Fabio Borini and Joe Allen take to the field. To be fair, Arsenal are actually lacking a bit of character, as evidenced by their cataclysmic Carabao Cup final display, so this might not be such a bad thing.

A heroic playing return for Kolo Toure

Kolo Toure is an iconic figure among Arsenal supporters. A member of the Invincibles side of yesteryear, he made over 300 appearances for the Gunners between 2002 and 2009. A move to Manchester City followed whereafter he was brought to Liverpool as experienced defensive cover in 2013. B-Rod was obviously impressed by the Ivorian centurion as he then signed him for his Celtic side after his not-so-mutually agreed departure from Liverpool. Kolo might be 36 now, and retired, but don’t be surprised if you see him back on the pitch for Arsenal under Rodgers. Now, now, there is no need to be upset.

Fluid, attacking soccer

For all the obvious jokes and jabs that can be directed at Rodgers, he does deserve credit for the way he promotes pure soccer. During his spell at Liverpool, and even before with Swansea, he set his sides up to play attacking soccer and delivered just that. It was this same attacking style which earned him the Manager of the Season award in 2013-14 and saw the Reds narrowly miss out on the league title. He might not be quite the tactician that Wenger is but Arsenal fans can strap themselves in for some forward-thinking soccer if Rodgers gets the nod.
