PyeongChang 2018: Top 10 moments from Olympic figure skating
6. Kaetlyn Osmond captured Bronze in ladies
The top tier in the ladies free skate was a triumvirate of incredible technical ability and artistic excellence, and Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond was no exception. Much of the talk coming into the games was the intense rivalry and talent from the top two figure skaters from Russia, Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Mevedeva, but Osmond certainly staked her claim with her gorgeous free skate set to the “Black Swan” piece from Swan Lake.
Her jumps electrified with their height, Osmond smoldered in her black swan costume, and glided across the ice with smooth precision. If Medvedeva had made any mistakes, Osmond could have easily staked a claim for an Olympic silver, but of course Medvedeva was as incredible as was expected. However, Osmond’s daring and illustrious free skate set a fine line between the top three of the ladies field and everyone else.
“When I hit my ending position I didn’t want it to end,” Osmond said about her free skate afterwards.
She also looked for her mom once she stood on the podium with Zagitova and Medvedeva, the other medalists in the final.
“That’s often my goal at competitions – to see how to make my mom cry,” she said. “It’s not that hard,” Osmond joked, per the Globe and Mail.
