FX has been home to some of the best shows on cable TV recently. But while their dramas such as American Crime Story, Legion and The Americans have been getting all the accolades, they stake a claim to arguably the best comedy on TV in Atlanta. And after a 16-month break that felt like an eternity, it’s finally back for season 2.

While Atlanta is a show that serves the city’s fabled rap culture well, it centers around a poor black man trying to navigate the harsh climate around him. And even though it’s Donald Glover’s brain child, he’s far from being the series’ only star.

Atlanta had many sobering moments of reality, but it’s the absurdist moments that stand out. In season 1 alone, we saw a trans-racial black man who thinks he’s white, people getting run over by an invisible car, a black Justin Bieber and a heinous act of cultural appropriation at a Juneteenth party. And in an episode titled “Alligator Man,” that theme is sure to continue in the season 2 premiere.
