The promise of a Harry Potter game that will immerse you in life at Hogwarts is a bold one, but Jam City and Portkey Games look like they are ready to bring that exact vision to life.
A big part of Harry Potter fandom is the wish fulfillment aspect of it. Setting aside all the terrible things that happen to some students in the Wizarding World, it would be great to actually roam those halls and learn magic. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is going to be the latest attempt to give you that feeling this spring, and its second trailer certainly makes it appear it’s up to the task.
As you can see in the gameplay trailer below, Hogwarts Mystery will allow you to create your own wizard or witch and choose a house. In what Jam City and Portkey Games are calling “narrative adventure with RPG elements,” you’ll experience life as a student and all that entails: magic, friendship, danger and more.
What’s super intriguing about this trailer is that is shows off multiple gameplay elements, including dialogue choices, what appears to be gesture-based spellcasting and combat, just to name a few. Life at Hogwarts shouldn’t ever be boring, and this makes it look like one mobile game that understands that.
No release date has been announced yet for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, but Android users can pre-register now to be notified when the game launches for Android phones and tablets.
“We are grateful to the fans who have made Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery one of the most anticipated mobile games of 2018,” Chris DeWolfe, co-founder and CEO of Jam City, said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to open Google pre-registration and share a new sneak peek at how this game will let fans create their own character and enter Hogwarts as a student for the first time.”

Hogwarts Mystery will also be available in the App Store for iOS devices this spring (and since pre-ordering iOS games is a thing now for some reason, it’s possible we’ll get an announcement in that regard at some point too). We’ll send an owl as soon as we learn more.
