. C. Missouri. Jontay Porter. 27. player. 18

I’m circling back to the Porter-Boston pairing, one that initially excited me early in the season. Porter could fill the role that Kelly Olynyk excelled in while he was with the Celtics.

Fortunately for the Celtics, Porter’s defensive abilities are significantly more inspiring than those of Olynyk. Porter is a surprising athlete, using his quickness and physicality to open up space for his shooting and passing to thrive. That recipe was executed to perfection on Tuesday, when Porter scored 24 points against Vanderbilt, thanks to a 4-of-4 shooting night from deep. He also tallied six assists, which tied a season high.

Boston is overrun with guards and wings with length, but they need a restock of their young big depth. Porter is somewhat similar to Al Horford, and could learn from him during Horford’s remaining two seasons in Boston. Brad Stevens’s program is a godsend for any young player hoping to improve.

Porter could easily go a lot higher than this depending on how the summer process goes for him, but at this point Boston makes a ton of sense.
