The San Francisco 49ers have won the coin toss against the Oakland Raiders and will have the ninth pick in the NFL Draft.

The ninth pick in the NFL Draft will belong to the San Francisco 49ers. They won the coin toss against the Oakland Raiders, who will now have the 10th pick. The Raiders and 49ers both finished the season at 6-10. After season record, the tiebreaker then moves to strength of schedule, but the two teams also tied in that category as well (.512 SOS).

Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Jon Gruden represented the Raiders while San Francisco general manager John Lynch represented the 49ers. Former player and Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, who played for both teams, flipped the coin.

The coin flip was filmed live on NFL Network at the NFL Combine. “Let’s get on with it,” said Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who seemed less than thrilled about the whole thing.

After the first round, the two teams will then alternate the draft spots. San Francisco and Oakland also had to flip a coin back in 2006 when they both finished 4-12 with the same strength of schedule. The 49ers won that flip as well. They selected tight end Vernon Davis with the sixth pick while the Raiders took safety Michael Huff at No. 7. It’s safe to say San Francisco made the right decision.

After their blockbuster trade to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots, it’s clear San Francisco will not be taking a quarterback in the first round. They could take a wide receiver in an attempt to give Garoppolo some offensive weapons.
