Burnley and Everton bring an interesting matchup as the two sides are very close in the table, but have gotten to where they are in completely different ways.

The Clarets have been the surprise team of the season so far. Very few predicted they’d be a mid-table side, let alone one spot off the European places. Sean Dyche’s low block system has worked wonders, with center-backs Ben Mee and James Tarkowski being the clubs two best players this season per WhoScored.

In attack, Burnley has used the target man striker pairing of Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes. The two work together to win clearances and bring their pacey wingers into play to counter-attack quickly. Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson have played key roles as well with their expertise at delivering crosses and set pieces.

Everton, have been the opposite of Burnley. A summer loaded with new signings including former Burnley center back Michael Keane was supposed to be enough to help them compete for the top-six.

Instead, they got off to a rough start, found themselves in the relegation zone, sacked Ronald Koeman, brought in Sam Allardyce, and are now stable but still clearly not at the level people expected them to be at. Cuco Martina and Idrissa Gueye have been two of the clubs best players this season, while Wayne Rooney has been the leading goal-scorer with seven to his name.

Everton have only won one road game this season, a 1-0 win against ten-men Newcastle back in mid-December. They’ll be hoping for their second on Saturday against Burnley which would allow them to leapfrog them in the table.
