Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was also drafted into MLB, and after being traded to the New York Yankees, he’s finally making his debut.

Now batting, No. 73. Russell Wilson. No. 73.

Wilson’s day job is playing starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football Legaue. However, with the 40-hour going through its offseason, Wilson is picking up a side job playing as an infielder with the New York Yankees in MLB.

Wilson, who was acquired from the Texas Rangers on Feb. 7, has been in spring training for the Yankees over the past few weeks. On Friday afternoon, Wilson finally took his first career at-bat after having been drafted back in the 2010 MB Entry Draft by the Colorado Rockies.

After all those years, Wilson finally stepped up to the plate with a rousing ovation behind him. He dug in, tugged on the bill of his helmet and raised the bat. Then, with all that anticipation, he promptly struck out.

Wilson, 29, played collegiately at North Carolina State before being drafted by the Rockies in the fourth round of the aforementioned 2010 draft. It’s ridiculous to think that a quarterback who has a Super Bowl rings and two appearances on Super Sunday was only drafted a round higher in the NFL, going to the Seahawks in 2012.

Perhaps playing in spring training is getting his mind away from what was a tough 2017 campaign. For the first time in his six-year career, the Seahawks missed the playoffs, finishing with an 8-8 record. The team will probably look much different come training camp, with Sheldon Richardson, Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson all hitting free agency in the coming days.
