Did the 2008 NCAA Tournament make Steph Curry? That’s not quite fair to say, but it definitely brought him into the spotlight and he became an instant sensation for the performances he put on in front of millions of viewers.

Before the 2008 NCAA Tournament, fans wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between Steph Curry and an end-of-the-bench player for a mid-major. He wasn’t a household name although he had averaged over 25 points per game in his three-year career at Davidson. It was the 2008 NCAA Tournament that made him a lottery pick.

In case you don’t remember Curry’s heroic run to the Elite Eight, let’s just go over the type of numbers he put up. In a first round win over No. 7 Gonzaga, Curry scored a whopping 40 points and made 8-of-10 shots from 3-point land. In an improbable win over Georgetown, he scored 30 despite a cold shooting performance. He capped off the run with 33 points against Wisconsin and 25 versus Kansas.

The small program from North Carolina made that incredible run on the back of Curry’s 32 points per game and eye-popping 3-point shooting. He became a superstar overnight.
