On Friday, March 2, the UFC returned to Las Vegas to bring fight fans the UFC 222 ceremonial weigh-ins, featuring a women’s featherweight title fight between reigning champion Cris Cyborg and former Invicta FC champ Yana Kunitskaya.
Cyborg (19-1), also a former Invicta FC and Strikeforce champion, is coming off a thrilling decision win over Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219 in December. This marked her first title defense since earbing her 145-pound belt with a third-round TKO over another former Invicta FC champion in Tanya Evinger at UFC 214 in July.
Kunitskaya (10-3), who will be making her UFC debut, was last seen winning the Invicta FC bantamweight title with a decision win over Raquel Pa’aluhi. Prior to this, ‘Foxy’ came up short in her previous title fight against Evinger during their rematch in March 2017.
Also appearing on the card is a featherwieght scrap between Frankie Edgar vs. Brian Ortega, a heavyweight bout between Stefan Struve vs. Andrei Arlovski and a women’s strawweight fight between Ashley Yoder vs. Mackenzie Dern.
