The Virginia Cavaliers were staring down a loss at Louisville. Then the unthinkable happened with less than a second left.
The Virginia Cavaliers are the No. 1-ranked team in the country, and are most likely headed to a No. 1 overall seed at the NCAA tournament in a few weeks. Of course before we get to the actual tournament they have to finish out the regular season.
On Thursday, they took on a Louisville team that was desperate for a signature win to help them secure a spot in the NCAA tournament, and they came about as close as you can get to getting that victory.
Louisville led 66-62 with 0.9 seconds left in the game. It should be a wrap right? Well, that wasn’t the case as Louisville’s Darius Perry fouled Ty Jerome on a 3-point attempt with less than a second left. Jerome made the first two free throws, and missed the third but Virginia was called for a lane violation.
That lane violation is important because seeing as it wasn’t a made basket Louisville can’t run the baseline on the ensuing inbounds. You can imagine what Deng Adel did on said inbounds. You guess he tried to run the baseline which gave the ball back to Virginia with less than a second left.

Next thing Louisville knew the ball was in De’Andre Hunter’s hands, and he banked in a 3-pointer as time expired to give Virginia the win. On the first day of March college basketball did what it does best, which is provide insanity. When was the last time you saw a team pull out a victory with less than a second to go?
Louisville has had a rough couple of weeks, and Thursday night didn’t make things any better. Virginia on the other hand seems to have the March dramatics already down pat.
