The second season of Jessica Jones isn’t earning quite the same praise as season 1, but it should still be Certified Fresh when it releases later this week.

Encores can be tricky things. In the case of Jessica Jones season 2, it’s that much tougher because critics and fans alike loved its predecessor, as evidenced by an 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, Certified Fresh and then some.

Season 2 is still too early to call, because only 25 advance reviews are in, less than half of what will likely go into the final score. So far, though, reviews are slightly less positive, and at the time of this article, the latest batch of Jessica Jones episodes sits at 76 percent.

There are enough reviews in for a Rotten Tomatoes consensus write-up, which reads like this:

"While Jessica Jones is a slower burn with less focus than its inaugural season, its enticing new character arc more fully details the most charismatic Defender."

It’s interesting because pacing has been an issue with multiple Marvel Netflix series, even the ones that critics really enjoyed. The hope is that Jessica Jones season 2 can avoid any really big problems on that front, but there’s at least the suggestion that the season starts slowly.

The other part of that is that this season “fully details” everyone’s favorite superpowered PI. Without going too far into spoiler country, that’s because the most interesting case Jones takes in the first part of the season involved herself — and specifically, the real story behind how she got her powers in the first place.

In any case, season 2 releases on Netflix on March 8, and the remainder of the reviews that feed into the Rotten Tomatoes score should follow in short order after that. Even if Jessica Jones can’t quite live up to the same level of acclaim this time around, the guess here is that it’ll be plenty Fresh and definitely still worth binge-watching.
