Dion Lewis rumors: Top 3 landing spots
After playing in the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots each of the past two seasons, Dion Lewis will be running elsewhere come 2018.
One of the most underappreciated players in the game today, Dion Lewis is looking to cash in for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old was the focal point of New England’s ground attack a year ago, racking up 896 yards and nine total touchdowns, totaling 5.0 yards per carry.
While the age is advanced for a running back in today’s NFL, Lewis doesn’t have a ton of wear on him. The Albany, N.Y. native only has 329 career carries, playing with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Patriots.
Best fits
1. Detroit Lions
Detroit is the natural fit here. The Lions have never been able to run the ball effectively since the days of Reggie Bush. More importantly, new head coach Matt Patricia is coming over from the Patriots, making this an obvious move for Detroit. If the Lions are going to spend a little money to improve the offense, Lewis would be a nice place to start.
2. New York Giants
New York has already gone to New England for running back help before. The Giants signed Shane Vereen before the 2015 season. While that move went bust, new general manager Dave Gettleman might believe he’s getting a better player in Lewis, who has the ability to catch the ball and get shifty in space.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After releasing Doug Martin, the Buccaneers have a clear need. While they could go with the current crop of Peyton Barber, Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers, none of those players rushed for 500 yards last year. Additionally, Tampa Bay has to find a way to take the pressure off Jameis Winston, who is going into a make-or-break year.
