Donte Moncrief rumors: Top 3 landing spots
By Josh Hill
Donte Moncrief isn’t the best receiver on the free agent market, but if the right team signs him it could end well for everyone.
This year’s free agent wide receiver class leaves a lot to be desired, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t contain talent. Donte Moncrief is a perfect example of this; he’s coming off a pretty ‘meh’ season and will be a cheap signing for any team desperate for receiver help.
His upside is in what he could bring to a team down the line. It’s an investment in future stock, and the right team could come along and place in him a situation to shine.
Best fits
1. Baltimore Ravens
Just about everyone on the free agent market at wide receiver should be on the Ravens radar. Moncrief isn’t the hottest name fans will lean on, but he’s a warm body that can catch a ball — which is really the only prerequisite for the job. If Baltimore rolls with Moncrief, it’ll be a gamble but one that could help compliment an addition in the draft. Say he’s paired with Calvin Ridley or another top free agent like Allen Robinson — then the Ravens could be onto something.
2. Dallas Cowboys
With questions about Dez Bryant both this year and each one that passes after, the Cowboys are going to have to do something to help Dak Prescott. Dallas has a brand new wide receivers coach, which means he could try to make a splash by bringing in new blood to compete. Moncrief isn’t going to single handily open up the passing game, but we’ve seen receivers similar to him work in unison to do so. He’d come cheap, which is important and could give the Cowboys offense the jolt it desperately needs.

3. Chicago Bears
Mitchell Trubisky’s honeymoon is over. The Bears took a gamble and rolled with their rookie for most of last season, but now he’s going to be under a microscope unlike ever before. If the Bears don’t want to ruin his career before it can even get started, they need to surround him with weapons on offense. New head coach Matt Nagy could turn Moncrief into a Tyreek Hill for Chicago, which is a big ask but could pay off in an even bigger way.
