Basel will travel to Manchester for the second leg of their round of 16 Champions League tie. Manchester City won the first leg 4-0, and will most likely use that much to rotate their squad and give first team players an opportunity to rest.
Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan all found the net in the first leg with Gundogan finishing with a brace. Gabriel Jesus who has just come back from injury could potentially start in this match-up to give him time to gain match fitness before starting a Premier League match.
Other youngsters such as Oleksandr Zinchenko and Phil Foden could start, as could January signing Aymeric Laporte.
City also have nearly a week off after this game, with their next match being a Monday night matchup with Stoke at the Britannia.
Basel don’t have the luxury of squad depth that City have but it would still be surprising to see them field their regular first-eleven for a match that is all but lost.
The Swiss side is currently 14 points off Swiss Super League leader Young Boys but it does have two games in hand. With only 14 matches remaining in their season, Basel will need to treat this match with City as an afterthought and go on an incredible run if they want to win their ninth straight league title.
