After playing more than expected for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017, Ryan Fitzpatrick is continuing his NFL odyssey elsewhere this fall.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has already played for seven teams in his career. This spring, he’ll be headed to his eighth. After appearing in six games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017, the former Harvard star is trying to shop his talents and get another year in the NFL as a serviceable backup.

Throughout his career, Fitzpatrick has thrown for 26,991 yards and 173 touchdowns. His best season came in 2015 with the New York Jets, totaling 3,905 yards and 31 scoring strikes. Now, after two down seasons, Fitzpatrick will look for a role that gives him a clipboard.

Best fits

1. Houston Texans

Fitzpatrick played in Houston for head coach Bill O’Brien back in 2014, and he had a decent campaign. The 35-year-old had 17 touchdowns against eight interceptions, leading Houston to a 9-7 record. The Texans need somebody to replace Tom Savage and sit behind Deshaun Watson, and Fitzpatrick fits the bill.

2. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle has long been without any suitable backup for Russell Wilson. Wilson has been taking tons of hits over the last few seasons, as the offensive line has resembled a sieve. The Seahawks don’t have much money to spend this offseason, and Fitzpatrick fits into their meager budget. Seattle has to figure out a solid plan in case Wilson were to miss a game or two.

3. Los Angeles Rams

Could Fitzpatrick be the first quarterback to play with the Rams in St. Louis and Los Angeles since the latest relocation? It’s possible, because general manager Les Snead might want better insurance behind Jared Goff than Sean Mannion. The Rams are now in position to contend for a Super Bowl appearance, which is the perfect type to bolster depth.
