Eric Reid rumors: Top 3 landing spots
One of the most versatile defenders in the game today, former San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid will be a great addition for a team.
Eric Reid hasn’t gotten much attention throughout his career save for his kneeling alongside Colin Kaepernick, and that’s a damn shame. Reid has been a terrific player through five years with the 49ers, playing at strong safety and even linebacker at times throughout his tenure.
Only 26 years old, Reid is entering the prime of his career and stands to be a steal for someone in free agency. A former LSU standout, Reid has 10 interceptions and 34 passes defensed to this point. Given the NFL’s penchant for versatility these days, Reid should be able to cash in nicely.
Best fits
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City is a terrific fit on the field for Reid. The Chiefs play a ton of three-safety looks and with Eric Berry alternating between strong safety and hybrid linebacker, Reid would play the Robin to Berry’s Batman. The Chiefs have a glaring need after releasing Ron Parker, and Reid would fit general manager Brett Veach’s plan of getting younger and faster on defense.
2. Oakland Raiders
The other Bay Area team has all kinds of needs defensively. Oakland has Obi Melifonwu and Karl Joseph at safety, but Melifonwu barely played due to injury in 2017 and could be shifted around the secondary. At this juncture, the Raiders simply have to add talent to the defense, and getting a versatile chess piece in Reid would be wise.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay had the worst pass defense in the league last year. The Buccaneers could use an upgrade anywhere that doesn’t include Vernon Hargreaves III, and Reid would be a terrific find. With Mike Smith running the defense, there’s reason to believe a quick turnaround could take place.
