Morgan Burnett rumors: Top 3 landing spots
After eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Morgan Burnett is looking to start anew somewhere else before calling it quits.
When healthy, Morgan Burnett is one of the best safeties in the NFL. At 29 years old, Burnett is entering the twilight of his career, although intelligence and an increased need for good secondary play across the league makes him relevant for a few more seasons.
With the Green Bay Packers seemingly moving on, Burnett will be on the market for the first time in his lengthy career. Since coming to Green Bay as a rookie in 2010, Burnett has been both solid and star-crossed. The former Georgia Tech has not played a full season since 2012, making his durability a significant concern.
Best fits
1. Pittsburgh Steelers
If Pittsburgh releases Mike Mitchell, the need will be there at strong safety. Burnett’s age won’t scare away the Steelers, who are working in the tail end of their championship window. If Pittsburgh has any real designs on beating out the New England Patriots in the AFC, it has to take some chances. Burnett would be a good place to start.
2. Dallas Cowboys
After losing J.J. Wilcox and Barry Church a year ago, the Cowboys are in desperate need of help on the back end. Dallas doesn’t have a ton of cap space to work with, but Burnett shouldn’t cost a ton. Jerry Jones would be well-advised to add a veteran for a team that has high expectations entering 2018.

3. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City is overhauling its defense, and while Burnett doesn’t fit into the youth movement, he’s a quality player who can play alongside Eric Berry. The Chiefs play a ton of three-safety looks under defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, helping to keep Burnett fresh by rotating him. Burnett should also have interest considering Kansas City’s ability to contend.
