Fourth Round

New England’s fourth round pick comes in the compensatory variety. So this is a later pick than where even the reigning AFC Champion would be picking normally. However, these are the value picks that continuously contending teams like the Patriots have to hit so that they can remain competitive. New England has a secondary need at linebacker. So maybe Fred Warner out BYU could be the selection here?

Warner played all four years for the Cougars. In four years in Provo, Warner registered 262 tackles (158 solo, 104 assists), 32.5 for a loss of yardage, 13 pass breakups, seven interceptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns, 6.5 quarterback sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Simply put, the guy did a little bit of everything in the middle of the BYU defense. His ability to make all kinds of plays could have him a mid-round favorite for a team like the Patriots. If they liked what they have gotten out of former Cougar Kyle Van Nuy, then Warner might be right up their alley.

Warner is 6-foot-3, 236 pounds. He has the frame of a prototypical linebacker. However, foot speed may be his inevitable downfall at the next level. That being said, if Warner is a heady player that takes to New England’s coaching, he could be the next great under-the-radar linebacker to play for the Patriots.
