Going streaking with Devils’ Taylor Hall
By Dane Quinn
New Jersey Devils winger Taylor Hall has scored a point in 26 straight games, a personal best, as the Devils make a playoff push.
What was your New Year’s resolution? It’s possible that you wanted to stop eating candy. Or maybe you wanted to drop some weight by joining a local gym.
As for Taylor Hall, he decided that he wanted to score a point in every game since the beginning of 2018. 26 games later, he has become a one man wrecking crew for the New Jersey Devils.
The Trade
When Devils general manager Ray Shero acquired Taylor Hall from the Edmonton Oilers for Adam Larsson, everyone knew he was going to big piece of New Jersey’s puzzle.
Hall’s first year with the organization didn’t play out the way he wanted it to. The success of Taylor’s former team struck a nerve with the former No. 1 overall pick. Taylor Hall told ESPN’s Joe McDonald that he was a “proud person” and felt like the trade was “an indictment” on him as a hockey player. He has been through many ups and downs since changing uniforms. Hall is now making a push to claim the Hart Trophy.
By the Numbers
No. 26 has been a big topic for the New Jersey Devils over the two weeks. On February 24, the Devils finally retired Patrik Elias’ No. 26 in a pre-game ceremony before defeating the New York Islanders. The leading scorer in Devils history was on hand to see Hall assist on two goals, which extended his point streak to 21 games.
Hall has accumulated 38 points over his last 26 appearances. He has contributed 18 goals since the streak began. He’s not only a goal scorer, he has gotten his teammates involved with 20 assists.
New Jersey’s left winger is doing his best to carry his team to the playoffs for the first time since they lost to the Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 Stanley Cup Final. Taylor has 13 more goals than Kyle Palmieri, who has 17. He has assisted on 14 more goals than Will Butcher.
The most astounding number is 33. Taylor Hall has 74 points, which is 33 more than the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Nico Hischier.
Taylor Hall will look to extend his point streak to 27 games when the Devils take on the Winnipeg Jets Thursday night in New Jersey.

Hall is currently tied with Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks with 26 straight games with a point. He has a long way to go to catch Wayne Gretzky, who had a point in a record 51 straight games. The New Jersey left winger must pass Mario Lemieux, Mats Sundin, Steve Yzerman, Paul Coffey and Guy Lafleur to top this exclusive list.
If Hall does break the record, he will definitely join this elite group in the Hall.
