In a surprise announcement, Nintendo has officially confirmed a new Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch during a new Nintendo Direct.
Sooner or later, we figured Nintendo would finally reveal a new Super Smash Bros. The only thing is we didn’t think it would be this soon. We aren’t complaining, however, since this is absolutely incredible news.
During the new Nintendo Direct on Thursday, a new Super Smash Bros. game was confirmed. So far, we don’t know many details, but it’ll suffice for now.
We can tell you what we do know, however. For one, the inklings from Splatoon are confirmed to be in the game, which is a nice addition. We also know that Mario (obviously) will be in it, as well as Link, sporting his outfit from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Other than that, that’s about it.
We wish we had more to discuss and explain, but Nintendo seems to be keeping things under wraps. You can see the teaser below to increase your excitement:
With the game confirmed to be releasing in 2018, most likely during the holidays, we’ll definitely see some gameplay at E3 in June.
This will be the biggest game of the year for the Switch, and that’s a fact. Last year, the big-time releases were Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. We’re expecting even more big franchises to release on the Switch this year. But, for now, we’re simply glad a new Super Smash Bros. is happening.

To speculate a bit more, we wonder what other new characters could be joining the inklings on the roster. Maybe some characters from ARMS will make their way into the game. With the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy also confirmed for the Switch, maybe he’ll be joining the roster, as well.
