1. Green Bay Packers

This team may seem a little odd at first blush. They have a young gun receiver who they just paid big money to in Davante Adams. They also still have Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb under contract. The catch with that is they now have over $35 million tied into those three players as things stand right now headed into 2018. That simply is not feasible for a team to spend that much on three receivers, especially since two of them are coming off very underwhelming seasons.

Yes, quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed a lot of 2017. Adams thrived and Nelson and Cobb fell flat. One of these two players could be cut and there is potential that both could be gone. The smart money is Green Bay keeps one of them at a much reduced rate. The odds likely favor Nelson due to his rapport with Rodgers.

Regardless of how things shake out with Cobb and Nelson, the Packers need an upgrade. They also might be looking to shake up their reputation as always being a non-factor in free agency under former general manager Ted Thompson. The temptation to put a former top pick at receiver who has talent with Rodgers at a reasonable price might be too good to pass up. If you’re Sammy Watkins, wouldn’t you want to play with one of the greatest quarterbacks ever? He’s endured enough average quarterback play through his career.

It would be exceptionally smart to take a short-term deal with incentives built in and play well for the Packers. Watkins would rebuild his value as a receiver and play with Rodgers at the same time. It’s a win-win for both sides and we could finally see Sammy Watkins at the height of his powers in Green Bay.
