1. Shaquem Griffin, LB, UCF

Was there any doubt that Shaquem Griffin was going to garner the top spot on this list? The brother of NFL corner Shaquill Griffin shocked the entire NFL at the combine. That is nothing special for a man who lost his left hand when he was four years old. It was a surprise to even see Griffin at the combine. The NFL did not invite him until an outpouring of fans and media members were upset he did not get invited.

Griffin has defied the odds since he was a child, and looks like he will continue it all the way to the NFL. On tape he shows a rare blend of athleticism and speed. He played on all levels of the defense but was best as an off ball linebacker.

In Indianapolis he did not do all the drills but the drills he did compete in were impressive. It started with the bench press where he was allowed to wear a prosthetic. The linebacker completed 20 reps at 225 pounds. Then he went to go run the 40. Based on his brother’s run a year ago, people were expecting a good time. Griffin laced up his cleats and flew down the field in 4.38 seconds.

The former “national champion” from UCF was also said to impress in interviews. This man put himself on the NFL radar after most considered his handicap to much to overcome. At the very least he proved that he can be an impact layer on special teams with his speed and constant motor. His best role may be as an edge defender in sub packages where he can use his speed to get around the edge and attack the quarterback. One thing is for certain, he made himself a lot of money over the weekend and will hear his name called during the draft.
