Demario Davis rumors: 3 best fits
After an excellent season with the New York Jets, inside linebacker Demario Davis should be cashing in with a lucky team in free agency.
Some players get all the headlines, and other thrive in the shadows. For Demario Davis, he would certainly fall into the latter category through no fault of his own. The 29-year-old has mostly played on awful teams, bouncing between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns during his six-year career.
Last season, Davis notched his fifth straight years of at least 90 tackles, three of which cracked the century mark. In fact, 2017 was his best overall campaign, totaling career highs in tackles (135) and sacks (5.0). Although his age is a question mark in terms of a longer deal, there is no reason not to spend good money on one of the better inside linebackers around.
Best fits
1. New York Jets
The Jets should simply lock Davis up. The fact they have not already is a strike against general manager Mike Maccagnan, who should have taken care of business. Instead, Davis is likely to hit command more now, even if he returns. Still, New York has needs across the board, and keeping Davis in house solves one of them.
2. New York Giants
Davis could simply hop across MetLife Stadium and save himself the trouble of moving. The Giants traded for Alec Ogletree but still need a ton of help on the second level of their defense. Davis brings a willing tackler who can get some pressure up the gut. New York could do much worse than Davis alongside Ogletree.

3. Tennessee Titans
If the Titans are not able to retain Avery Williamson, it would make a ton of sense to replace him with Davis. The two are similar players, but Davis is a tad older. All that said, the Titans are trying to make a push in the AFC South, and Davis’ experience would go a long way toward that goal. Tennessee also has plenty of cap space to use, making this is terrific signing.
