Third Round

You know what, the Jets could use a little bit of dynamism in the pass-rushing game coming off the edge. While the Jets might value a pass rusher over a receiver ever so slightly, they could be getting a productive player at No. 72 in the third round if the end up drafting Uchenna Nwosu out of USC.

Nwosu played four years for the USC Trojans. He recorded 169 total tackles (94 solo, 75 assists), 20.5 for a loss of yardage, 19 pass breakups, 12.5 quarterback sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Nwosu became a more versatile player as he aged through the USC program. He could be a solid linebacker or an edge rusher in Todd Bowles’ front-seven. Nwosu is 6-foot-3, 251 pounds. While that is the size of a typical NFL linebacker, he might have to kick out to edge, as linebacking has become more speed oriented in recent years.

His versatility clearly shined, as Nwosu was part of an era of USC football where it got itself back together under head coach Clay Helton. Yes, a lot of that could be due to Sam Darnold being a transformative talent at quarterback. But whatever. Nwosu would remain teammates with Darnold, as both are slated to the Jets in this mock draft.
