Fourth Round

It would serve the Jets to take a running back in the middle rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft. There is no need for Gang Green to be all-in on a Saquon Barkley type of back in the first round. Guys like Nick Chubb out of Georgia could be available in rounds three and four for the taking. Should Chubb fall to No. 107 in the fourth round, that would be an absolute steal.

Chubb starred for the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC for four years, forming an elite tailback tandem with his best friend and fellow 2018 NFL Draft hopeful Sony Michel. In four years with the Dawgs, Chubb rushed for 4,769 yards on 758 carries for 44 touchdowns. Only Herschel Walker had more rushing yards from scrimmage in SEC football history. Keep in mind that Chubb missed half of his sophomore season due to a torn ACL.

He is 5-foot-11, 227 pounds. Chubb has shown collegiately that he can be the bell-cow a team like the Jets would love to have in its offense. However, there is some question about how much tread is left on the tires after a stellar career at Georgia. That being said, Chubb should be a productive NFL running back at least during his first contract as a professional.

The big question about Chubb coming out of college is if he will be able to catch the ball out of the backfield. That was never his forte at Georgia, as Chubb has just 31 receptions in college uniform. He could be schemed off the field should the Jets be in obvious passing situations. Regardless, Chubb is absolutely worth getting in the middle of the upcoming draft. There is low risk, high reward with that type of selection.
