Has Grant Hill always been this soft-spoken? The former Duke star whispered his Selection Sunday takes.
As part of the March Madness Selection Show extravaganza, Grant Hill, Jim Nantz and Bill Rafferty provided their takes on the bracket, videoing in from the arena after calling the Cincinnati-Houston AAC tournament championship game. No one said anything particularly remarkable or bold, however, what was remarkable was Grant Hill’s speaking volume.
As someone who has heard Grant Hill call games before, and heard him speak on various sports-related panels, Hill’s speaking volume has never been the primary takeaway, nor has it ever registered quite so low before. But during this segment, Hill was more or less whispering. It was the most soft-spoken sports analysis of all time. Twitter users wondered if he thought he was in a library or perhaps calling golf.
Look, making bold March Madness predictions without the ability to spend multiple hours on your boss’ dime analyzing the teams, the matchups and every possible X-factor is intimidating. Not everyone can, or should want to, express themselves at a Dick Vitale speaking volume. Still, one should speak up and assert themselves on live television.
