With nine games remaining in the Premier League season, Stoke are fighting for their Premier League lives. While Stoke are only one point from safety, they’ve allowed the most goals in the division. On Monday, Stoke host first-place Manchester City at the bet365 Stadium. The Citizens are 16 points ahead of Manchester United and need only four more wins to clinch the Premier League title.

Stoke have been better since Paul Lambert took over as manager. The Potters have picked up points in five of the six games under Lambert. Stoke have draws in four of their last five games, including a scoreless draw against Southampton last weekend. Under Lambert, the Potters have been better defensively. Stoke have allowed four goals in six games under Lambert, significantly better than the 50 goals they allowed in their first 23 games. Offensively, Stoke are very dependent on Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri, who has scored a team-best seven goals and six assists.

After winning the first leg of their Champions League with Basel 5-0, City decided to use a second string lineup on Tuesday. While Basel won 2-1, City advanced to the quarterfinals. The Citizens have won three straight and five of their last six since losing their first game of the season to Liverpool. Pep Guardiola’s side have been dynamic this season offensively, scoring 83 goals. Five different City players have scored at least seven goals this season. Sergio Agüero and Raheem Sterling have combined for 36 goals this season, while Kevin De Bruyne leads the Premier League in assists.
