NBC’s Rise premieres Tuesday from the producer of Parenthood and Friday Night Lights. Here’s how to watch Rise season 1, episode 1 live, on TV and online.

On Tuesday NBC is launching what it hopes is TV’s next big hit, so we’re telling you how to watch Rise online and watch Rise live so that you can see if the series about a high school drama group is everything the network hopes it will be.

The Rise premiere introduces Lou (Josh Radnor from How I Met Your Mother, back in his next TV starring role), a high school teacher who decides to take over a struggling theater department as a way to reinvigorate himself, and naturally winds up connecting with all of the students who are a part of it. Think of it as a more dramatic take on Glee.

The new series will get some brownie points because it comes from Jason Katims, who brought NBC another great story about a high school program in a small town: the TV version of Friday Night Lights. He also created Parenthood for the network, so he knows his audience and how to tell a heart-tugging story with the best of them. But will audiences respond to his latest story?

Here’s how NBC officially describes the episode:

"Lou Mazzuchelli, an uninspired English teacher at Stanton High, petitions to take over as director of the school’s theater program in an attempt to revitalize his passion for teaching, but quickly realizes he has his work cut out for him.His controversial decision to change the musical to the more provocative Spring Awakening and his atypical casting choices create a ripple effect for the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe, the school’s football coach Sam Strickland, and the students in the show."
