Minnesota Wild look to keep Colorado Avalanche at bay in Central Division
By Paul Horvat
The Minnesota Wild host Central Division rivals the Colorado Avalanche in a Western Conference showdown on Tuesday.
Colorado Avalanche center Nathan McKinnon is making his case for MVP consideration this season, but as it is with most other sports, it boils down to how well your team finishes the regular season.
For the Avalanche, wins are necessary if they plan to help bolster McKinnon’s hopes of an MVP. On the other side of this matchup, the Minnesota Wild look to maintain their place in the postseason fray as they now have a healthy Zach Parise to help make the push.
Here is everything you need to know to watch the Minnesota Wild as they host the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche are just one point in front of the Los Angeles Kings for the Western Conference wild card, and the St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames, respectively, are just a few points behind them.
Can McKinnon continue to carry this young team to the playoffs? With the addition of Samuel Girard at the trade deadline and strong play from Tyson Barrie in the absence of the injured Erik Johnson, McKinnon will have more defensive depth and two above-average offensively talented guys to help him on the power play.
The Wild have one of the most underrated goalies in the league in Devan Dubnyk. At home this season, his goals-against average is 2.14 percent. Parise, Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle’s line is starting to heat up, causing teams to have to choose which checking line they want to deploy against the Wild. With Parise playing on the power play and gelling with Eric Staal, it will be interesting to see if coach Bruce Boudreau will start playing them full shifts as the push to make the playoffs requires all the stops to be pulled out.

The last time these two teams met, the game needed overtime and eventually a shootout to determine a winner with the Avs coming out on top 4-3. On Tuesday, the Wild will be tough on home ice, and this one should be tight and high-paced throughout.
